AdP backed R&D project distinguished by Iwater

The European project Watintech was an award winner at Iwater, the international event held in Barcelona and dedicated to the integrated management of the urban water cycle. The award was attributed both due to the innovative character of the project, based on the intelligent and decentralised management of wastewater treatment infrastructures, and to the quality of the team and its advisory board, on which the AdP Group sits.

The Watintech project is coordinated by ICRA – the Catalan Institute of Water Research and counts upon the participation of Spanish, Danish, Italian and Portuguese partners, including the AdP group that is represented on the project advisory board by the Águas do Algarve Innovation and R&D manager.

The project falls within the scope of fostering the circular economy having as its objective the recovery of value from wastewaters dispatched for treatment, including energy (methane), various nutrients as well as reutilising the actual treated wastewaters.

In addition to the potential for the valorisation associated with these resources, their recovery also enables the avoidance of odours and the wear of some treatment machinery.
