Águas de Portugal Group companies adhere to the Anticorruption Call to Action from the United Nations

All the Águas de Portugal Group companies have subscribed to the Portuguese Anticorruption Campaign that has responded to the United Nations issued Call to Action both by the business sector and by civil society. The objective involves raising the awareness of governments over combatting corruption and promotion integrity, ethics and transparency in conjunction with their stakeholders and society in general.

The Portuguese Anticorruption Campaign, promoted by the GCNP – Global Compact Network Portugal and by APEE – the Portuguese Association of Business Ethics, emerges in response to the Anticorruption Call to Action, launched by the United Nations Global Compact, encourages the business sector to put into practice and take measures enhancing transparency, integrity and good governance on behalf of their governments, thereby backing the adoption of its Principle 10 according to which “organisations should combat corruption in all its forms, including racketeering and bribery”.

On 9 December, International Anticorruption Day, the following companies signed up to the Campaign: Águas do Alto Minho, Águas do Norte, Águas do Douro e Paiva, SIMDOURO, AdRA - Águas da Região de Aveiro, Águas do Centro Litoral, Águas do Vale do Tejo, Águas do Tejo Atlântico, SIMARSUL, AgdA - Águas Públicas do Alentejo, Águas de Santo André, Águas do Algarve, AdP Energias, AdP Internacional and AdP Serviços.

The Group thus deepened the commitment assumed on 18 September with the adhesion of Águas de Portugal and EPAL: combatting corruption and striving to develop and adopt strategies fostering integrity and sustainable development and the founding of fairer and more balanced societies.

At the ceremony attended by the managers of the AdP Group companies, Miguel Cruz, President of the state holding entity Parpública, and Mário Parra da Silva, Chair of the Board do Global Compact Network Portugal, emphasis was placed on the importance of adopting a pro-active anticorruption attitude and the fact that initiatives combatting corruption also generate positive consequences for the other sustainable development objectives.
