AdP signs contract with Indonesian Government

Águas de Portugal Group has just signed a contract with the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works to support the water supply institutional transformation programme promoted by the Indonesian Government.
The contract concerns the provision of consultancy services and its pilot project is to improve drinking water services in the province of Bali, a tourist destination which attracts an average of more than six million people every year.
Águas de Portugal Group is going to support the Indonesian Government in implementing the institutional transformation programme for the water sector that is underway in that country. This transformation will focus on the policies, institutions and regulations of the water sector, seeking to improve governance and service delivery to guarantee universal access to a water supply managed in a safe, sustainable and resilient way for the population of Indonesia.
With the province of Bali as its pilot project, the consultancy contract now signed between AdP - Águas de Portugal Internacional and the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works is worth 399,962.57 USD, and is funded by the World Bank as part of the National Urban Water Supply Project in Indonesia.
The consultancy services will be provided by a multidisciplinary team comprising several companies from the Águas de Portugal Group, through AdP Internacional, for approximately 16 weeks, and are expected to be completed by the end of November 2024.
As part of this, a review and mapping of the policies, institutions and regulations of the water companies in the province of Bali is planned, as well as the creation of a roadmap for the transformation of the sector in this province, including water supply and sanitation services and the establishment of an effective institutional framework, a uniform tariff structure and a regulatory framework to then be developed at national level.
With a resident population of around 4.4 million people, the province of Bali is a world-renowned tourist destination, attracting an average of over 6.8 million tourists every year. The coverage of the piped water supply service in this province is less than 20% and the low coverage of sanitation services leads to deterioration and contamination of groundwater quality, with impacts on the water available for consumption, which is insufficient to cover the needs of domestic consumption and commercial and hotel/tourism activities.
The collaboration between Águas de Portugal Group and the Indonesian Government began after a visit by the Minister of Public Works to the group's facilities in Portugal, and an agreement was formalised between the two entities during the 10th World Water Forum, held in Bali in May 2024, which is now materialised with this consultancy services contract for the institutional transformation of water supply in Indonesia.
