Águas do Alto Minho begins activities in January 2020


In January, Águas do Alto Minho launches its activities with the company responsible for the water system spanning the Alto Minho region and serving around 100,000 clients across the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Caminha, Paredes de Coura, Ponte de Lima, Valença, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira, providing water supply and wastewater sanitation services.

Águas do Alto Minho is the entity that, as from January, takes over the operation and management of the water system for the Alto Minho region.

This system results from the 100% public partnership signed between the Portuguese state and the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Caminha, Paredes de Coura, Ponte de Lima, Valença, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira, which attributes Águas do Alto Minho with responsibility for its operation and management.

For around 70,000 clients, this system covers an area of 1,585 km2 and with a capacity able to annually supply over 9 million m3 of drinking water as well as annually collecting and treating over 6 million m3 of wastewaters.

Águas do Alto Minho holds the mission to provide the most reliable, effective and quality service through the efficient management of natural resources, infrastructures, operational and maintenance services, fostering environmental sustainability coupled with the improvement of the quality of water for consumption, the correct treatment of wastewaters and reducing water losses and infiltrations.

A Águas do Alto Minho is a publicly owned limited company held jointly by AdP – Águas de Portugal, S.A. and the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Caminha, Paredes de Coura, Ponte de Lima, Valença, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira.
