AdP Group ensures drinking water for over three thousand households in Mozambique

EPAL, an Águas de Portugal Group company, donated a mobile Water Treatment Plant that now enables over three thousand households, in the Ndunda neighbourhood in the suburbs of Beira, Mozambique, to access drinking water 24 hours per day.

The now installed water treatment system integrates into the humanitarian project targeting the population hit by cyclone Idai carried out by the Águas de Portugal Group in close collaboration with FIPAG. Attending the inauguration of this system were João Pedro Matos Fernandes, the Portuguese Minister of the Environment and Energy Transition, and Alberto Mondlane, the Governor of the Mozambican province of Sofala.

In addition to the mobile water treatment station, the supply system extends to include a generator and a supply network running over 1.5 kilometres. This system spans the different phases of water treatment: from capture to pre-treatment and water treatment prior to its distribution to the population.

The mobile station was transported from Portugal to Mozambique within the scope of solidarity with the victims of cyclone Idai that hit the centre of the country in March, caused over 604 deaths and long lasting effects impacting on 1.8 million people.

Since last April, the AdP Group has acted in the field in order to implement its mission to proceed with the verification of the water supply infrastructures, provide a diagnosis of their respective condition and evaluate the respective rehabilitation necessary to restoring normal functional services.
