Águas de Portugal puts its support behind the United Nations SDG Ambition program

Águas de Portugal is supporting the acceleration program for implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in the United Nations Global Compact and is one of twelve Portuguese companies to integrate the SDG Ambition challenges into its business management.

The objective of SDG Ambition is to accelerate the implementation of Agenda 2030 over the course of the “Decade of Action” for complying with the SDGs – the Sustainable Development Goals.

Designed by the United Nations Global Compact – the institution’s initiative for corporate sustainability – the accelerator program is taking place across 30 countries throughout the next six months and involving the analysis of performance, global and local workshops, and specialist consultancy services. Currently, 650 companies in these 30 countries have signed up to this program with the set objective of attaining 1,000 companies in 40 countries by 2022.

In Portugal, the program is to undergo implementation by Global Compact Network Portugal with the support of the Águas de Portugal Group and correspondingly counting on the participation of twelve companies, which also includes EPAL and Águas do Vale do Tejo.

José Furtado, President of the Águas de Portugal Board of Directors, highlighted the importance of sustainability to the management policy and recalled that adherence to the Global Compact already took place over a decade ago and on this “path towards sustainability, we did not hesitate over supporting and participating in this acceleration program for obtaining the 17 Sustainable Development Goals”.
