AdP Group best practices highlighted at a specialist United Nations summit

The best water management practices in effect at the Águas de Portugal Group, particularly emphasising the resilience of systems in the Alentejo and the Algarve, the utilisation of treated wastewaters as an alternative supply source and energy efficiency, among other facets, were presented at the second meeting of the GWOPA - Global Water Operators’ Partnership Alliance Expert Group, which took place in Abu Dhabi, on 14 January 2020.

Dedicated to the theme of “Public Water Services in Cities with Water Scarcity in the Middle East and North Africa regions”, and under the auspices of the World Future Energy Summit, the core objective of this meeting was to draft recommendations within the scope of promoting the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda led by UN-Habitat.

This meeting also serves to identify the management entities and their specialists that might in the future engage in GWOPA backed partnerships around themes such as water scarcity, energy efficiency and resilience towards climate change.

The conclusions of this GWOPA specialist group meeting are to be submitted to the WUF10 - World Urban Forum, which takes place next February in Abu Dhabi.

GWOPA is a United Nations organisation launched to foster and support international non-profit making partnerships between water management entities.

The Águas de Portugal Group was represented at the 2nd GWOPA meeting by Cláudio de Jesus, members of the holding group Board of Directors and President of AdP Internacional.

In addition to the implementation of greater resilience to water systems in the Alentejo, the transformation of the Algarve System, the REUSE projects and PEPE – the Energy Efficiency and Production Plan of the AdP Group, the occasion also highlighted the diverse projects undertaken by the Águas de Portugal Group in different countries and their contributions towards mitigating supply problems in regions with high levels of water scarcity.
