The Águas de Portugal Group affirms its competences at the World Bank
The Águas de Portugal Group participated in a mission to the headquarters of the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington between 2 and 4 October where the Group was presented as a “Utility of the Future” and highlighting the capacity to respond to the future challenges facing the sector.
Alexandra Serra, AdP Internacional Executive Director, Nuno Brôco, AdP Serviços Engineering Director and Pedro Póvoa, Director of Asset Management at Tejo Atlântico, headed this mission dedicated to national companies and entities from across the water sector in representation of the Group.
According to Alexandra Serra, this clearly conveyed the determining role of Águas de Portugal in the process of institutional reform that began in Portugal in 1993 and has today gained widespread recognition as an international case study of success. “Across the world, there are many countries that today face the situation that Portugal was in 25 years ago and promoting the multi-municipal model and the best practices existing in Group companies provides important contributions towards inspiring the transformations necessary to the managing entities of these countries,” she highlighted.
According to Nuno Brôco, such moments are of enormous importance as regards recognition of the role of the AdP Group as the driving force in a sector that has overcome many challenges over the last quarter of a century. He furthermore highlighted that “today, we are an international benchmark reference which also constitutes a factor of motivation for our teams that do extraordinary work within the borders and that do not always get their due recognition. There is the greatest satisfaction, as a professional in the water sector, to be able to share the work that the thousands of people in this Group construct and maintain daily in their companies.”
According to Pedro Póvoa, being able to share the Water Factories concept and the Vira beer, produced from recycled water enables the AdP Group to position itself as a benchmark for innovation - “The presentation of the innovative projects and solutions of Águas do Tejo Atlântico at the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank was an incredible experience, the result of the work of a great team that promises there is still so much more…… to come!”
With the primary objective of affirming the national solutions and competences for promoting the positioning and reputation of Portugal and Portuguese companies in the water sector at these two international financial institutions, the mission received backing from the PPA – the Portuguese Partnership for Water and AICEP – the Portuguese Agency for Foreign Investment and Trade, in partnership with the Portuguese representative to the Boards of Directors of these institutions and the AICEP Delegation in New York.
Following the success of this mission, the Águas de Portugal Group was invited to participate on a high level panel during the Annual World Bank Meetings taking place next week in Washington, where the Group shall be represented by Alexandra Serra.
