Águas de Portugal contributes to the UN Global Compact summit
The United Nations Global Compact annually brings together governments, participant companies and civil society at a summit chaired by the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and debating ongoing themes within the framework of involving every interested party in fostering common objectives.
This world summit also includes sessions promoted by the global networks at the national level with Águas de Portugal invited to speak as a subscriber to the Business Ambition for 1.5º commitment, and participate in the event held by UN Global Compact Portugal on 16 June.
Integrated into the panel on clean energies, the intervention made by the Vice-President, José Sardinha, reaffirmed the commitment of the AdP Group towards the transition to a low carbon economy, highlighting the enormous relevance of efficiently managing energy within the context of water supply and wastewater treatment activities, which are themselves highly energy intensive, and giving examples of the reductions in consumption and the production of energy from renewable resources based on the endogenous means available to group companies.
The UN Global Compact leaders summit, which took place online this year, on the theme of building a fairer and more inclusive society under the theme of “Recover Better, Recover Stronger, Recover Together”, featured interventions by the UN Secretary General, by Lise Kingo, CEO & Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, and as well as by Al Gore, 45th Vice-President of the United States of America and founder of The Climate Reality Project, by Ban Ki-Moon, the former UN Secretary General and by CEOs from companies located all around the world.
